About the Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday that takes place on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. This year, it falls on June 8. The festival is celebrated to honor Qu Yuan, a revered poet and minister from the Warring States period, who is remembered for his patriotism and contributions to Chinese literature.
Historical Background
Qu Yuan served as an advisor in the state of Chu and was known for his loyalty and dedication to his country. However, due to political intrigue and corruption, he was exiled. In despair, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. The local people, who admired him, raced out in their boats to save him or recover his body. They also threw rice into the river to distract fish from eating his body. These actions gave rise to the customs of dragon boat racing and eating Zongzi (sticky rice dumplings).
Customs and Traditions
We hope you take this time to enjoy the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Dragon Boat Festival. Should you have any urgent matters during this period, please ensure they are addressed before the holiday begins.
Wishing everyone a joyful and safe Dragon Boat Festival!
Best regards,
